Pan ROCKS!

Last week I was very lucky to be able to fly out to Burbank, California to record for the “PanRocks LA 2017” video project.

The project entailed using 25 pan players with a rock and roll rhythm section to record a few rock/metal classics!  The video element was covered by an award-winning crew that handled 360 degree (VR compatible) video of the recording studio time as well as player interviews and 2D action videos of all the players.

The rythm section featured Stephen Perkins on drums (Jane’s Addiction, 9 Inch Nails), Billy Sheehan on Bass (UFO, David Lee Roth Band, Mr. Big, Steve Vai), and Tracii Guns on guitar (Guns & Roses, LA Guns) in the studio with all the pan players!  The steelband was made of some Pan Rocks regulars: the Canada crew, Bryan Garbe, Stephen Lawhorne, Kayleen Justus and about a dozen others.  We had a 14-hour session in Ocean Studios Burbank, that included all of the video and audio work for 5 tracks of music.  Matt Starr produced the project and was an enthusiastic and fun energy to work with. As always, the organizer Tracy Thornton was a blast to hang out and work with!  Check out all of Tracy’s projects!

I don’t want to say TOO much about the whole thing. The video is coming soon enough, and you will all get to experience it for yourselves!

Working with the LA guys and my pan playing colleagues was a treat.  I really look forward to the next Pan Rocks project and any session work I might see.

Thanks for checking in!  JAZZ TRIALS this Thursday the 25th!
